Mr. William "Mick" Ruiter

Gloucester, MA- William “Mick” Ruiter, 54, of Gloucester, MA passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 18, 2023. Son of the late William Ruiter, Mick is survived by his son, Charles Ruiter, his former wife, Amy Beaton, his mother Mary Nangle and husband Kevin, step brothers Paul Nangle and wife Dani, Patrick Nangle, Chris Nangle and wife Sarah, his Aunt Dot and Uncle Bill Sperounis, beloved cousin Jennifer Harden-Sperounis and husband Bill, cousin Bill Sperounis and wife Stacey, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins on his father’s side, along with his beloved and constant companion Gus, his black lab. Born and raised in Lowell, MA, Mick played for Lowell Pop Warner where in 1983 his team won the State Championship. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1987 where he served on the wrestling team under legendary coach George Bossi. He moved to Cape Ann in 2000. His biggest pride was his son, Charlie, whom he adored. He was always quick with a hug and “love ya, pal!” He would call Charlie during every Patriots game to discuss whatever was happening in the game. He loved any time he got to spend with Charlie, whether going to a Patriots’ game, going ice fishing when Charlie was young, or just getting takeout together and catching up. Working as a Paramedic and a firefighter, Mick enjoyed helping others and would give his friends the shirt off his back. Mick loved being near and on the water and worked for many years with his close friend Dirt Murray of Gloucester where he was able to use his strength and had the freedom of being outside on the water with faithful Gus beside him. Mick was always a comedian! When he was in 4th grade, his teacher would let him do a stand up routine at the end of the day imitating Steve Martin. That sense of humor never went away, only developed. As his lifelong friend Larry Doherty said, Mick was known for his irreverent humor and biting sarcasm. He was a one-man comedy show! Mick maintained lifelong friendships from Lowell and made so many new friends along the way. His heart was as big as the man. He will be missed by so many. Lowell's unique culture was imprinted on Mick's DNA. He loved, truly loved all things Lowell. His friends, Cribbage, 45’s, Downtown, Sub Shops & Restaurants. In particular, the delicious Boot Mill sandwich from Arthur's Diner. Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service to honor Mick’s life on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 12 NOON at St. Patrick’s Cemetery 1251 Gorham St., Lowell, MA. Entering St. Patrick’s Cemetery through the back gate (Boston Road Gate), take your second left. Section H and the grave will be on your left hand side.
