Mr. Salvador Nunes Meneses

Salvador N. Meneses Beloved Father and Grandfather LOWELL—Salvador Nunes Meneses passed away on Friday morning, May 3, 2013 at the Northwood Nursing Home, with his family by his side. He was 89 years old. He was the husband of the late Maria A. Ormonde Meneses who died in 1995. Salvador was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal on September 29, 1923, one of seven children of the late Francisco and Rosa L. (Rocha) Meneses. He attended school in the Azores and later worked on a farm. He married his wife Maria in 1947 and together they had seven children. They came to the United States on June 22, 1978 and settled in Lowell, where he lived for the rest of his life. Salvador worked in the Lowell Mills in the Shoe Factories and later at Cambridge Tool of Billerica. Salvador was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. He also held membership in the Portuguese American Center. Salvador enjoyed Portuguese parties and watching many processions over the years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed sitting outside. He also enjoyed playing cards and loved to cook. Salvador was a strong willed, hardworking man. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Meneses is survived by his seven children, Salvador Meneses and his wife Elizabeth of Lowell, Francisco Meneses and his wife Anna of Providence, RI, Joao Meneses of Lowell, Luciano Meneses and his wife Rita of Lowell, Maria Pacheco, Mariazinha Silva and her husband Antonio, and Isilda Sousa and her husband George, all of Lowell; his 15 grandchildren, Telma Cardoso, Marco Pacheco, Michael Meneses, Kimberly Aguiar, Sonia Meneses, Cesar Meneses, Cristina Meneses, Fabio Meneses, Jason Meneses, Carla Silva, Lisa Silva, Tiago Meneses, Marlene Meneses, Marcio Meneses, and Sandra Sousa; 12 great grandchildren, Diego, Tamara, Francisco, Andrea, Vanessa, Joana, Sonali, Jeffrey, Blaise, Samara, Elias, and Calia; also his sister-in-law, Norma Meneses of Lowell, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Meneses was the father-in-law of the late Maria Meneses and Francisco Pacheco and the brother of the late Desidero Meneses, Joao Meneses, Francisco Da Rocha, Manuel Meneses, Maria Meneses Pereira, and Alcina Viera.
