MR. RICHARD L. MAURAIS

Richard “Dick” Maurais June 17, 1947 - January 8, 2026 Richard “Dick” Maurais passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 8, 2026, with his devoted daughter by his side. He was the beloved widower of Marybeth (Silva) Maurais, who predeceased him in 1995. Born and raised in Lowell, Dick was the son of the late Helen (Grzyb) and Joseph Maurais. After the loss of his mother, he spent time at the Franco-American Orphanage before graduating from Westford Academy. Following high school, Dick proudly enlisted in the United States Army. While stationed in Germany, he served his country with dedication and discipline until his honorable discharge. Dick always put his family first. After Marybeth’s passing, he devoted himself to raising their daughter and providing a stable, loving home. He worked steadily, often holding a second job, quietly making sacrifices without ever seeking recognition. “Dickie Hardware” spent 40 years working at McKittrick Industrial Supply, a career he took great pride in, retiring only when the business closed. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Dick loved all sports, all music - especially The Beach Boys and Garth Brooks, faithfully watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy each night, enjoyed card nights with friends, long walks through Market Basket and took pride in gardening and cooking. He was happiest by a warm campfire and treasured camping trips, especially the memories made at Hermit Island and Point Sebago. Above all else, Dick’s greatest love was his family. He was immensely proud of his daughter and especially proud of his grandson, Logan Richard. He was overjoyed to become “Pepere” to his three foster grandchildren and great-granddaughter and cherished every moment he spent with them. In addition to his wife and parents, Dick was predeceased by his brother, William Maurais, and several in-laws, including Brian Bell, Michelle, Linda, and Michael Silva. He is survived by his daughter, Christine Maurais, and her partner, Justin Houghtaling, of Lowell; his grandchildren, Logan and Kayliana; his mother-in-law, Genevieve Silva; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including his dear friends Patricia Silva and Kenny Silva; many nieces and nephews; and cherished friends Jo Breault, Bob McKittrick, and Don Kelly, whose decades-long friendships meant so much to him. Dick will be remembered for his deep devotion to his family, his quiet strength, and his unmistakable dry, sarcastic sense of humor. His perfectly timed remarks and subtle wit brought laughter even in the hardest moments. Despite facing many health challenges throughout his life, Dick met each day with resilience, optimism, and grace, never allowing illness to define him. He remained positive and full of heart until the very end. His laughter, warmth, and unconditional love will live on in the countless memories he leaves behind and in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. HIS BURIAL WILL TAKE PLACE PRIVATELY IN THE SPRING IN THE MASSACHUSETTS NATIONAL CEMETERY IN BOURNE, MA.
