Mrs. Mary L. Rourke

Mary L. (McGuire) Rourke Born January 20, 1919, Lowell, MA. Mary L. Rourke died Saturday, June 4, 2011, at the age of 92, at Saints Medical Center in Lowell. She was the wife of the late Henry F. Rourke and retired from Lowell State College. She was a lifelong resident of Lowell and was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Florence (McGrath) McGuire. She graduated from Sacred Heart School and Lowell High School. Prior to retiring, she worked as a House Mother at Lowell State College. Mary enjoyed working around the girls in the dorm and often reached out to them with acts of kindness such as making sure a lonely student had a ride home on the weekend. She was a longtime member of the former Sacred Heart Parish, now Holy Family Parish, and member of the Poor Clare Guild. She enjoyed life to the fullest with her travelling, playing bingo and cards. Mary was a very giving and caring person all her life. Mary loved children and was always happy in their company whether it was taking her grandchildren to Disney World or just babysitting in her home on Andrews Street. She liked traveling and taking many weekend trips throughout New England, cruises in the Caribbean with family and even had the opportunity to live for time with her son Philip in Bangkok, Thailand. Mary is survived by her son Philip F. Rourke and his wife Elke. She has two grandsons, Kevin and Kerry Rourke. She is also survived by two sisters, Bernadette Galvin and Dorothy McGuire both of North Chelmsford. Mary has four great grandchildren Cameron Rourke, Kirsten Rourke, Kara Rourke and Julia Rourke. Mary has seven nieces and nephews that were very close to her during her lifetime and brought her much joy. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and extended family, including her great nieces and nephews. Her life was filled with her many friends and people close to her. Mary brought joy into many people’s hearts and will be missed greatly by all whom she touched. FUNERAL NOTICE ROURKE—In Lowell, June 4, 2011. Mary L. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on MONDAY from 3 until 7 P.M. MARY’S Funeral will begin on TUESDAY MORNING at 9 o’clock from the Funeral Home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 o’clock at HOLY FAMILY PARISH – ST.
