Mrs. Mary Patricia "Pat" Sweeney R.N.

Mary Patricia “Pat” Sweeney “Nana” Mary Patricia “Pat” (Boyd) Sweeney, the beloved wife of the late Francis R. Sweeney, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital, following a brief illness. She was 79 years old. Mary Patricia Boyd was born in Lowell on March 16, 1935, the only daughter of the late William and Madeline (Judge) Boyd. She was a graduate of St. Michael’s Grammar School, Lowell High School, and St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing. Pat began her career as an R.N. at the E. N. Rogers V.A. Hospital in Bedford. From there Pat was employed at several nursing homes in the area in the field of Geriatric Care. She retired in 2000 as a Director of Nursing Administration. Pat was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church before moving to Nashua and later Hampstead, NH. She was then a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Holy Angels Parish in Plaistow. Family was paramount to Pat. She was the matriarch. She was most happy when her family and friends were around her. Her “boyfriend” Frank was still the most important person to her, and together they celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage. As Nana, she never missed an event, game, swim meet, or anything having to do with her grandchildren’s lives. Pat was a mother to more than just her own kids and grandkids. She was always there to help anyone out. Pat loved the holidays and family reunions. She enjoyed traveling with her brother Bill and sister-in-law Sim. She also loved Hampton Beach, shopping, and trips to Foxwoods. Pat was a loyal New England Patriots fan. Most recently, Pat lived in a great 55 and over community where she played cards, did crafts, and made many wonderful friends. Surviving Pat are her children, Gary F. Sweeney and his wife Lynne of Alpharetta, GA, Mark W. Sweeney of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Debra M. Sweeney and her husband Barry of Haverhill, and Erin P. Sweeny and her husband Bill of Atkinson, NH; her grandchildren, Katelynn Giannakopoulos and her husband Eli, Brittany Sweeney, Nicole Stewart, Graham Sweeney, Corinne Sweeney, Brent Sweeney, Shannon Sweeny, and Jeff Sweeny; her great grandchildren, Mia and Chrissa; her brothers, Gerald Boyd and his wife Ann of N. Andover, and William Boyd and his wife Sim of Nashua, NH; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Sheila Sweeney, Donna Sweeney, Sr. Theresa Sweeney, O.S.F., Dr. Thomas Sweeney, and Eleanor Sweeney. Pat also leaves her longtime friend, Karen Downes of Lowell. FUNERAL NOTICE SWEENEY—In Portsmouth, NH, October 19, 2014 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, M.
