Mary Agnes Ahearn Beloved Mother and Grandmother LOWELL—Mary Agnes (Hartigan) Ahearn passed away on Friday morning, January 16, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years old. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph L. Ahearn who passed away in 1997. Mary Hartigan was born in Lowell on November 1, 1920, the only daughter of William and Ellen M. (Murray) Hartigan. She attended the Immaculate Conception Grammar School and was a graduate of Lowell High School. Upon graduation from Lowell High, Mary began her career working as an inspector with the Remington Arms Company at the Lowell Ordnance Plant. She was later employed at CBS Electronics as a quality control inspector. Lastly, Mary retired as a secretary from Hanscom Air Force Base in 1982. Mary enjoyed traveling, canoeing, and camping with her husband in their earlier years. During their CYO times, Mary and Joseph were great dancers. She enjoyed reading and was an excellent seamstress. A longtime member of the former Sacred Heart Church, Mary more recently attended Holy Family Parish. Mary is survived by her two daughters, Joanne M. Finnegan of Lowell and Eileen R. Thomas of Hillsboro, NH; her three sons, Joseph L. “Bud” Ahearn and his wife Gail of Dracut, Michael W. Ahearn and his wife Diane of Waterboro, ME, and Richard W. Ahearn and his wife Anna of Lowell; seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Mary Ahearn of Pelham, NH and Hope of Hudson, NH. Mrs. Ahearn was the grandmother of the late Susan Finnegan, the mother-in-law of the late Francis Finnegan and Merrill “Skip” Thomas, and the sister of the late Stephen Francis Hartigan and his former wife Pauline. Mary was also the dear friend of the late Rita Barry. FUNERAL NOTICE AHEARN—In Lowell, January 16, 2015 at her home, Mary (Hartigan) Ahearn, 94, the wife of the late Joseph L. Ahearn. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on TUESDAY, January 20, 2015 from 4 until 8 P.M. Mrs. Ahearn’s Funeral will begin on WEDNESDAY morning at 9 o’clock from the Funeral Home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 o’clock at HOLY FAMILY PARISH – ST. MARIE’S CHURCH, corner of Chamberlain & Grafton Sts. Lowell. Her burial prayers will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Chapel.
