Maria Papadopoulos Retired Teacher Hellenic American Academy LOWELL—Maria (Chronopoulos) Papadopoulos, 83, a resident of Moore Street, passed away on Tuesday evening, June 27, 2017 following years of declining health. She was the wife Demos Papadopoulos, who passed away on February 14, 2003. Maria was born in Zacharo, Greece on March 10, 1934, a daughter of the late Denious and Vasiliki (Pournos) Chronopoulos. Maria received her early education in Greece before coming to the United States in the 1950’s. She was a graduate of the College of St. Basil in Garrison NY. Maria met her husband to be by accepting a ride with him in his car to attend a Funeral Service. Maria married Demos Papadopoulos at St. John The Baptist Hellenic Orthodox Church in Boston in 1961. In 1963 Maria and Demos moved to Moore Street in Lowell, the home in which she lived for the rest of her life. Maria loved her home and the beautiful grounds that accompanied it. She took great care of the flowers and plants around the property. She loved her flowers, and especially her rose bushes. The pride she had in her home was evident to anyone who rode by. While at home, Maria loved to cook. Mrs. Papadopoulos was a beloved schoolteacher at the Hellenic American Academy for many years. She loved her vocation as an educator and her love of children was evident. Maria also assisted her husband Demos in establishing their real estate property business. While at home, Maria loved to cook. Maria’s grandchildren Maria and Demitri were the loves of her life. She treasured the time she spent with them, and they in turn treasured her. Maria is survived by her only son, John Papadopoulos and his wife Diane of Andover; her two grandchildren, Maria Elayna Papadopoulos and Demitri Papadopoulos both of Andover; three sisters, Eleni Alexopoulos and her husband Rev. Soterios Alexopoulos of Nashua, NH, Christine Vasilopoulos and her husband Elias Vasilopoulos of Canton, MA, and Demetra Pappas of Hingham, MA; a brother, Napoleon Chronopoulos and his wife Theodora of W. Roxbury, MA; also several nieces, nephews, and friends. Maria was the sister-in-law of the late George Pappas. FUNERAL NOTICE PAPADOPOULOS—In Beverly, June 27, 2017 at Beverly Hospital, Maria (Chronopoulos) Papadopoulos, 83, a resident of Moore St. in Lowell, and the wife of the late Demos Papadopoulos. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL on SUNDAY from 5 until 8 PM. Mrs. Papadopoulos’ Funeral will begin on MONDAY MORNING at 9 o’clock from the Funeral Home, followed by her FUNERAL SERVICE at the HOLY TRINITY GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 62 Lewis Street, Lowell, at 10 o’clock. Burial will follow in Westlawn II Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Papadopoulos’ memory may be made to the Hellenic American Academy, Endowment Fund, P.O.
