Mrs. Luz Santiago

Luz Santiago Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Friend LOWELL—Luz (de Jesus Alvarez) Santiago, 74, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2011 at Saints Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Francisco Santiago who died in 1987. Luz was born in Patilla, Puerto Rico on December 7, 1936, a daughter of the late Conceptión de Jesus and Paulina Alvarez. She attended school in Puerto Rico. Luz came to the United States in 1969 and had lived in Lowell since then. She was a member of the Spanish community at St. Patrick’s Church. Luz remained at home to raise and care for her family. Luz was all about family. She enjoyed having everyone around her, sharing good meals and good times. An excellent mother and grandmother, she helped raise all of her grandchildren. She was loving and generous and would give whatever she had to anyone in need. Luz enjoyed taking walks and loved to people watch wherever she went. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She will never be forgotten. Surviving Luz are her children, Aida L. Santiago, Sara DeJesus, Sandra Santiago, S. Milagros Santiago, Gladys Santiago, Magaly Santiago, Francisco Santiago, Jr., Luis A. Santiago and his wife Mary Jo, and Miguel A. Santiago and his wife Stacy; several sons-in-law; her grandchildren, Sara E. and Luz M. Flores, Virgilio Flores, Jr., Ryan Santiago, Wanda L. and Emily Allende, Joey Santiago, Jacklyn and Joanna Dominguez, Juan and Javier Santiago, Arthur S. Baoutis, Jr., Vasiliki A. and Peter N. Baoutis, Dimitri D. Brasili, Sebastian and Kiara Simonphone, Tatiana and Adriana Santiago, and Miguel A. Santiago, Jr.; fourteen great grandchildren; and her sisters and brothers, Elena, Eva, Francisco, and Juan De Jesus. Luz was the grandmother of the late Marelyn Santiago.
