Lorraine M. Avila Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother LOWELL - Lorraine M. Avila, 88, of Lowell, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2023, with her family by her side. Lorraine was born in Lowell on January 23, 1935, the daughter of the late Edward M. Travers and Florence (Cassidy) Travers. She attended the Sacred Heart School and graduated from Lowell High School. She was married to her loving husband Robert L. Avila for 64 years before his passing in 2017. Devoted to her children, Lorraine was a stay-at-home mother who raised her family in Pawtucketville and was a communicant of St. Rita’s Parish. She was always in attendance to support her children’s activities, seldom missing a game, school event, or outing. She shone at motherhood from the very beginning up until her last day, it was her calling. Spending time with her family was paramount to Lorraine. She and Robert enjoyed many family trips with their children. Among them were winter vacations in Florida, summers at New England beaches, adventures in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and even a trip to the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Holidays were always filled with grandchildren, extended family, and close friends. Ultimately, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. For the past 35 years, she was a supportive presence at her grandchildren’s many events, often making the trip from her second home in Vermont, never wanting to miss their important milestones. Lorraine’s homes were a great source of pride, impeccably clean, much like her attire. She was often spotted with her daughter and granddaughters shopping for the latest fashions. She also enjoyed maintaining the flower beds she and Bob had planted at their Vermont home. In addition to her husband Robert, Lorraine was also predeceased by her son Robert Edward Avila. She will be deeply missed by her loving children Kevin Avila and his wife Kimberly; Cheryl Driscoll and her husband Thomas; and Stephen Avila; her seven grandchildren Kelly Pelkey and her husband David; Meaghan Driscoll and her significant other Christopher Williamson; Ryan Driscoll, Erin Driscoll, Alissa Alden, Derek Avila, and William Avila; her beloved and only great-grandchild, Evelyn Judith Pelkey, as well as several nieces and nephews. She will forever be a source of love and strength for her loved ones and always be adored by them. The family would like to thank Dr. Jessica Wieselquist, M.D., and her staff at Stony Brook Primary Care, the nurses and extended staff of the Tufts Medical Center NCCU, and Mrs. Donna Dillon for their unparalleled care of Lorraine.
