Katherine B. Oliver Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother LOWELL—Katherine B. “Kay” (Koch) Oliver, the beloved wife of William “Bill” Oliver, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Lowell General Hospital. She was 84 years old. Katherine was born in Lowell on August 10, 1927, a daughter of the late Robert and Gertrude (Wilkins) Koch. She was educated in both the Germantown, PA and Lowell, MA school systems and was a graduate of Lowell High School. Kay married Bill Oliver on October 13, 1946 and together they celebrated 65 years of marriage, raising three loving children. Kay and her husband Bill were well known in their neighborhood as the proprietors of Oliver’s Family Variety Store on Gorham Street for many years. Her husband Bill also owned and managed Bill’s Bar and Grill which was also on Gorham Street. When they closed the store in 1985, Kay went to work as a Librarian at the E. N. Rogers School in Lowell. Kay was well known for her love of family, friends, animals, and her garden. She had a wonderful ability to keep in touch with relatives and friends on Facebook and with her computer. She made everybody feel special. Kay loved to play cribbage with her daughter Linda every evening which became a special part of their daily get together. Kay and her husband enjoyed traveling and camping and took many trips from Canada to Disney World and Cape Canaveral. A very important part of Kay’s life was her Faith. She loved her Fellowship United Methodist Church. She was a member for over 70 years and is said to be the oldest member of the first Swedish Methodist Church in Lowell. Kay was strong in her faith. She brought the Grace of God to everyone she touched. A faithful follower and a true friend of Bill W., Kay was proud of the fact that she was a 50 year member and during that time was able to help others. Kay also was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 662-Lowell. Kay was a strong believer in organ donation. She was a member of the Bridge To Transplant Team and it was her wish that everyone would become an organ donor like her. Surviving Kay in addition to her husband Bill are her three children, Karen G. Nelson of Lowell, Linda J. Brousseau of Lowell, and William M. “Bill” Oliver and his wife Kathie of Tyngsboro; seven grandchildren, Thomas Field and his wife Rosemary, Timothy Field, Katie Stutz and her husband Han, Dustin Oliver Neild and his wife Lynn, Margaret Rose Brousseau, William J. Oliver and Samuel M. Oliver; her great grandchildren, Tasha and Nick Sampson, Crystal Agrela and her husband Luis, Emily Stutz, Kaitlin Stutz, Ryan Stutz, and Scout Michaela Neild; two great-great grandchildren, Evan Sampson and Samuel M. Field; her sister, Dorice R. Narbonne of Centerville, MA; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joseph Oliver, Neil Oliveria, Gladys Carignan, Thelma and Don Curran Kay also leaves many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. Mrs. Oliver was the mother-in-law of the late Donald A. Brousseau, Jr. who passed away on November 22, 2006, and the sister of the late Shirley Harris, Irene Hand, Ernest Koch, Robert Koch. She was also the sister-in-law of the late Pearl Koch, Dot Oliver, Teresa Oliveria, Oscar Carignan, and James Oliveira. FUNERAL NOTICE OLIVER—In Lowell, January 7, 2012 at Lowell General Hospital. Mrs. Oliver’s Funeral Service will take place on WEDNESDAY MORNING at 11 o’clock at the site of the FELLOWSHIP UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, CORNER OF MOORE AND BOURNE STREETS, LOWELL. Those attending services on Wednesday are asked to go directly to Church. Burial will take place in the Spring.
