Ms. Judith A. O' Hare

Judith O’Hare, Loving Mother, Grandmother, Sibling, and Friend LOWELL- Judith Ann (Hunt) O’Hare, age 83, a lifelong resident of Lowell, Massachusetts, sadly passed away unexpectedly on August 3rd, 2024 at her home. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on October 28, 1940, Judy was the daughter of the late James E. Hunt and Mary A. (Chodakowski) Hunt. Judy grew up in South Lowell and was a parishioner of the Sacred Heart Parish until it closed in 2004. Judy was a graduate of the Sacred Heart School, the Keith Hall Class of 1958 and the Catherine Laboure School of Nursing, Class of 1961, in which she earned her R.N. Diploma. Judy started her nursing career in 1961 as a Medical Surgical Nurse at St. John’s Hospital, Lowell. When she became a mother, she chose to stay at home, focus on her family and raise her two daughters. When she returned to her career, Judy worked as a school nurse for the Ernest Hermann Institute Day School, Lowell, and retired from working as a psychiatric nurse for Tewksbury State Hospital. Judy was an exemplary mother, grandmother, sibling, and friend. She was always willing to listen, offer advice and help others out. Judy was the life of the party, and enjoyed holiday family gatherings, especially Christmas and Easter. Just three weeks ago, Judy was able to celebrate and have dinner with five of her six siblings and their families in a much overdue “Hunt Family Gathering”. Judy embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, determination, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family and her five much cherished grandchildren. Judy enjoyed her home and her neighborhood in Belvidere and was affectionately referred to as “The Matriarch of Elliott Drive” by her neighbors with whom she considered dear friends. Judy loved to go to Foxwoods, go out to dinner to her favorite restaurants, watch tv shows, keep up with social media on her tablet, and talk on the phone with family and friends, however, her greatest joy was being “Grandma” and spending time with her five grandchildren. She was especially excited about the recent engagement of her granddaughter Francine, who will be the first of her grandchildren to get married. Judy is survived by her two daughters, Susan O’Hare of Chelmsford, MA, Darragh O’Hare of Lowell, MA, five grandchildren, Molly O’Hare Black of Dracut, MA, Francine O’Hare Black & her fiancé Troy Martinez of Dorchester, MA, Logan O’Hare Black of Long Beach, CA, Angus O’Hare Black of Somerville, MA, and Cavan O’Hare Black of Lowell, MA. She is also survived by all of her siblings, James Hunt & his wife Glenda of Saratoga, NY, David Hunt & his wife Kathryn of Lowell, MA, Donna (Hunt) Smith of Leominster, MA, Gary Hunt of Tewksbury, MA, Gail (Hunt) Roderick & her husband Robert of Murrells Inlet, SC and Brian Hunt & his wife Sally of Litchfield, NH. Judy also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Judy is predeceased by her brother-in-law, William Smith of Leominster, MA (2017). Family and friends are welcome to attend Judy’s Calling Hours from 4:00– 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 11th at the Fay McCabe Funeral Home, 105 Moore St. Lowell. Her Funeral will begin at 9 AM Monday, August 12, 2024 from the FUNERAL HOME followed by her FUNERAL MASS at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Polish Church, 340 High St. Lowell. Burial in the Holy Trinity Polish Cemetery, Lowell, MA.
