Mr. John E. Lally, Jr.

John E. Lally, Jr. Beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather LOWELL--John E. Lally Jr., died September 6, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Mary Sheila (Burns). He was born April 17, 1938 in Lowell MA, the son of the late John E. and the late Eileen (Beninghof) Lally. As a lifelong Lowell resident John graduated from Lowell High in 1955 and served in the Army Reserves from 1960 until 1966. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish in Lowell until its closing. He worked for the Courier Citizen in Lowell beginning in 1956 as an apprentice then as a journeyman compositor for twenty three years. As a Courier employee, he served as a Union officer for twelve years and as the President of ITU Local 310 for eight years. He then went on to work for BAE Systems (Sanders) as a product control supervisor and material supervisor for twenty eight years and retired in 2008. John's greatest love aside from his family was his love for hot rods and customs cars, of which he had many. He was most proud of sharing his love for hot rodding with his two sons and his favorite pastime when not attending car shows was gathering with his friends at his son's garage, Jay's Custom Exhaust, to "talk cars". His passion for customizing cars lead him to become a proficient auto body man and he was very proud of his work. He was one of the founding members and President of Mill City Street Rods, which was founded in 1979. He was a member of Mass Street Rods and served on the Board of Directors and as Vice President for the Early Ford V8 Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by his oldest son John (Jack) Lally and his wife Sandra of Lowell and their three children John Patrick, Hannah Marie and Leah Mary. He is also survived by his son James (Jay) Lally, Lauren Szafran and their three daughters, Evelyn Luna, Stacia Ruby and Sylvia Clementine. Family was most important to John and spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow was one of his favorite things. John is survived by his two sisters, Dorothy Faye of Chelmsford and Barbara Masse of Lowell as well as several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind three very dear friends, Joe Szafran, Bob Nutter and Chuck Haas. FUNERAL NOTICE LALLY—Died September 6, 2015, John E. Lally, Jr., 77, beloved husband of Mary Sheila (Burns) Lally. Mr. Lally’s Funeral will begin on FRIDAY MORNING at 9 o’clock from the Funeral Home, followed by his FUNERAL MASS at 10 o’clock at ST. MICHAEL’S CHURCH, 543 Bridge St. at Sixth St. Lowell.
