Mr. Frank Coimbra

Frank Coimbra Lowell, MA. 85, Korean War Veteran Retired from the Lowell Post Office Mr. Frank “Foozie” Coimbra died March 18, 2016, peacefully at his home in the Highlands, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Maureen Murphy Coimbra. Frank was the son of the late Antonio Coimbra and Carolina (Da Silva) Coimbra. Born in Lowell, Frank attended Lowell Public Schools and was a proud member of the famous Ray Riddick National Football Championship Team of 1949. He joined the United States Navy and served in Korea and in the South Pacific. He later moved back to Lowell and worked at Prelco Corporation before starting a long career with the Lowell Post Office for more than 40 years. Frank was an avid football fan, enjoyed watching horse racing, and visiting many tracks all across the country. He was a member of the Portuguese American Center, The Greek American Veterans Club and a former member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks. Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, taking vacations to Hawaii, Las Vegas and Seabrook Beach during summers. He is survived by his loving wife Maureen (“Moe” Murphy) Coimbra, daughters Dr. Donna Coimbra-Emanuele and her husband Franko, and Danielle Murphy Coimbra; one beloved grandchild, Oliver Francis DiRienzo; brothers-in-law, Capt. George B. Murphy Jr. and his wife Carolyn, Daniel P. Murphy and his wife Joan Bovitz; his nephews, Stephen Coimbra, Daniel C. Murphy, Patrick Murphy, Daniel, George and Francis Murphy, and nieces Grainne Murphy, Kimberly McGillicuddy and Donna Whitney, Tracy Everett and Catherine Murphy. He was predeceased by his in- laws, George B. and Helen T. Murphy, his brother Anthony “Hunka”, and sisters Philomena Coimbra and Florence Cordiero and her husband Manny. He also leaves many grand nieces and nephews, and dear friends who came to call. And a special thank you to Dr. Miguel Peixoto for his care and kindness. FUNERAL NOTICE COIMBRA--In Lowell, March 18, 2016 at his home, Frank Coimbra, 85, beloved husband of Maureen “Moe” (Murphy) Coimbra. Family and friends are invited to his Calling Hours on Wednesday morning from 10 AM until 12 Noon at SAINT ANTHONY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 893 Central Street, Lowell.
