Elizabeth I. Machado Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother LOWELL—Elizabeth I. (Rocha) Machado, 97, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth was born in Lowell on February 3, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Henry G. and Mary (Souza) Rocha. She attended the Butler School and was a proud graduate of Lowell High School class of 1943. Elizabeth married Francis Machado on November 6, 1944, and together celebrated 63 years of marriage. In her early career, Elizabeth worked as a stitcher for Scottie Shoe Industries in Lowell. She went on to work for many years at Millipore in Bedford, MA, until her retirement as supervisor of her department. Elizabeth was a woman of deep faith and devotion to God and her family. She was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish, St. Joseph’s Lithuanian Church and most recently Holy Family Parish. Family was central and most important to Elizabeth. She had a deep and genuine love of all children. Her greatest joy was found in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and caring for her loved ones. Elizabeth is survived by her children, Pamela Trainor and her husband Arthur, Francis Machado and his wife Maureen, and Mary Webster. Elizabeth also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Shannon Dowd, Anthony Dowd, Colleen Dowd-Newbury, Kathleen Dowd, Michelle Mannion, John Rodrigue, Jessica Dotson, Justin Strong, Zachary Machado, Jesse Webster, and Mary Elizabeth Webster; and 14 great grandchildren, Caitlin Dowd, Anthony Dowd, Samuel Newbury, Benjamin Newbury, Drew Valcourt, John Moore, Brittany Rodrigue, Elijah Dotson, Jeremiah Dotson, Alexia Strong, Colin Strong, Jordan Bordeleau, Noah Tanguay, and Lillyanna Webster, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves behind her loving brother, Anthony Rocha and his wife Constance. Elizabeth was the wife of the late Francis Machado who passed on December 13, 2007, the loving mother of the late Francine (Dowd) Sakelakos, who passed on October 4, 2007, and the grandmother of the late Matthew Machado. Elizabeth was also sister to the late Arthur Rocha, Frank Rocha, Henry Rocha, Louis Rocha, Florence Mello, Beatrice Kane and Virginia Borodawka. Elizabeth will be dearly missed by all her loved ones. Elizabeth’s FUNERAL MASS will follow at 11 o’clock at HOLY FAMILY PARISH – ST. MARIE’S CHURCH, corner of Chamberlain and Grafton Sts. Lowell. Burial in the family lot in The Lowell Cemetery.
