Mrs. Dorothy V. (Gallagher) Burgess

Dorothy V. Burgess Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend LOWELL—Dorothy Veronica (Gallagher) Burgess, 85, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Milford, NH Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Milan E. Burgess, Jr., former Billerica Water Superintendent, who died in 1994. Dorothy was born in Lowell on July 19, 1928, a daughter of the late John and Vera (Cornell) Gallagher. She was a graduate of the Sacred Heart Grammar School and Lowell High School. Dorothy was employed as a mill worker, and later at Geartronics in Billerica. Dorothy was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan but found the most joy when spending time with her family. She was a warm and loving sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her kind and generous spirit will forever be missed by all who knew her. Dorothy is survived by her two children, Robert M. Burgess of Amherst, NH, with whom she made her home, and Carol J. Rock of Bolton, MA; three grandchildren, Tracy Rock of Spencer, MA, Kelly Carpenter and her husband David of Alexandria, VA, and Brian Rock and his significant other, Ingrid Swenson of North Brookfield, MA; her four great grandchildren, Derek and Tyler Ingalls, Nora Carpenter, and Emma Rock; one sister, Veronica Whitmore of Lowell; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Gallagher, Ruth Gallagher, Mary Flynn, and Joyce and Charlie Burgess; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Mary J. Gallagher with whom she shared a special bond. Dorothy also leaves her former son-in-law, Dennis R. Rock of Fla. Dorothy was the sister of the late James Gallagher, John Gallagher, Vera Gallagher, and sister-in-law of the late Jack Burgess. FUNERAL NOTICE BURGESS—In Milford, NH, January 14, 2014, unexpectedly, Dorothy V. (Gallagher) Burgess, 85, the wife of the late Milan E. Burgess, Jr. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on FRIDAY from 4 until 8 P.M. Dorothy’s Funeral Service will take place on SATURDAY MORNING at 10 o’clock in the Funeral Home, followed by her burial in the Lowell Cemetery.
