Anthony S. Nobrega “Tony” Beloved Father, Son, Brother & Uncle Local Plumber LOWELL—Anthony S. “Tony” Nobrega, 47, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at his home, following a brief illness. Tony was the beloved son of Barbara (Butterfield) Nobrega who survives him, and the late Frank E. Nobrega, who passed away on October 27, 2018. Tony was born in Lowell on December 16, 1971. He grew up in the Highlands and attended the Morey School. He was a graduate of The Greater Lowell Vocational School with a concentration in the Plumbing Trade. Tony became a Licensed Plumber and enjoyed a nearly 30 year career. At one time, he was a member of the Plumbing Union in Boston. He was very talented at his trade. Tony Nobrega was one of a kind. He was funny, generous and was always there for anybody. Tony was the real deal. What you saw is what you got. He didn’t need to put on airs. Tony treated everyone with respect. He was a gentleman and a genuinely good guy. Everybody he met loved him. In his younger days, Tony was a talented boxer. He loved to box. In 1989, Tony won the Novice Class, and in 1990 the Open Title of the Lowell Golden Gloves. He fought in tournament fights at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami and at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. Tony loved his daughter Madeline with all his heart. He loved his father, and took his recent passing very hard. He never left the house or hung up the phone without telling his mother that he loved her. Tony loved God and often prayed that life would be easier and that things would get better. He will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends. Surviving Tony are his loving mother Barbara Nobrega; his daughter Madeline Nobrega; his sister, Mary Jo Matroni and her husband Stephen of Hampden, MA; his brother Frank Nobrega and his wife Jessica of Dracut; his nephew and niece, Matthew Matroni and his wife Shelby, and Katelyn Matroni; his uncle, Walter Nobrega and his wife Judy of California and his aunt, Dorothy Taylor of Milford, NH; his Godparents, Jerry and Mary Dockett, and many dear friends. FUNERAL NOTICE NOBREGA—In Lowell, January 18, 2019, Anthony S. Nobrega, 47, a Lowell resident. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL on TUESDAY from 4 until 8 PM. Mr. Nobrega’s Funeral will begin on WEDNESDAY MORNING at 9 o’clock from the Funeral Home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 o’clock at ST. MARGARET’S CHURCH, 374 Stevens St., Lowell. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell.
