Mrs. Agnes Mary Carolan

AGNES M. CAROLAN Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother Agnes Mary (McLean) Carolan, 93, of Lowell, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Agnes was the devoted wife of the late Frank J Carolan, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage until his passing in 2016. Born in Lowell in 1932, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Agnes (McHugh) McLean. She attended St. Peter’s Grammar School and graduated from The Academy of Notre Dame with the Class of 1948, and Lowell State Teachers College with the class 1953. She then attained her Masters Degree in Teaching from Fitchburg State College. Mrs. Carolan taught at the Shaughnessy Elementary School in Lowell for forty years and will be fondly remembered by the many students she inspired. Agnes was a loving and affectionate wife, mother, and grandmother, and always enjoyed spending time with her family especially when it involved the grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She and Frank made their home in the Highlands for 55 years. Together they raised four boys, enjoying camping, trips to Edwards and Seabrook beach, skiing with the kids and her brother Ed, swimming, and even rollerblading. Both Agnes and Frank, lifelong members of St. Margaret’s church, were avid participants in the choir for many years, with the highlight of traveling to Rome and singing at the Vatican for the Pope. She loved hosting family and friends for all holidays, and enjoyed going to lunch with the “girls” every month. Agnes leaves behind her children, Edward (AnnMarie), John (Stella), Timothy (Carrie) and Gregory (Hon) Carolan. Agnes also leaves her grandchildren Briana and her wife Haley, Grace, Maeve, Thomas, Ava, Alexa, Talay, Basil, her beloved McLean nieces, and her Couturier family, special friend Linda St. Pierre, and everyone else who was lucky enough to call her Nana. She was predeceased by her brother James and his spouse Mary McLean, Rev. George McLean, Rev. Edward McLean, Sister Agnes Mary McLean, and sister-in-law Betty Couturier. AGNES’ FUNERAL WILL BEGIN ON SATURDAY MORNING AT 9 AM FROM THE FUNERAL HOME, FOLLOWED BY HER FUNERAL MASS AT 10 AM IN ST. MARGARET CHURCH, 374 STEVENS ST. LOWELL. BURIAL WILL FOLLOW IN ST.
