Mrs. Evelyn Hayes

Evelyn Hayes Loving Mother and Grandmother LOWELL—Evelyn (Shirt) Hayes, a longtime resident of Lowell, and the wife of the late Paul Hayes, passed away on Saturday evening, September 11, 2010 at the Atrium at Drum Hill. She was 89 years old. Evelyn also resided in Westford and Littleton in her later years. Evelyn was born in Shaw, Oldham, Lancashire county England on December 29, 1920, daughter of the late Rhoda McKinlay. She came to the United States as an infant. Evelyn was raised in Lowell, attended Lowell schools, and was a graduate of Lowell High School. Evelyn married Paul Hayes on November 24, 1938, and together they raised five loving children. Evelyn and Paul celebrated 66 years of marriage before Paul’s passing in 2005. Evelyn was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was quiet and unassuming, yet passionate about and loving of her family. Evelyn was blessed with ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She adored them and cherished the time she spent with them. Surviving Mrs. Hayes are her five children, Elizabeth Rawnsley of Lowell, Jean Guthrie of Westford, Paul Hayes and his wife Linda of Virginia, John Gabriel Hayes of Chicago, IL, and Christine LeLacheur and her husband William of Littleton; her ten grandchildren, Mark Rawnsley and his wife Katherine of Brooklyn, NY, Michael Rawnsley and his wife Erin of Lowell, Joellen Spanos and her husband Michael of Westford, David Guthrie and his wife Kelly of Westford, Megan Guthrie of Westford, Kristen Bodkin and her husband Reed of Templeton, MA, Michael Hayes and his wife Jessica of Ayer, Kathryn Levesque and her husband Michael of New Hampshire, Graham Toma-Gabriel of Chicago, IL, and Susanne O’Keefe and her husband Brad of Falmouth, MA; 11 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Clifford Hayes of Rockport, MA, and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn’s family would like to acknowledge the caregivers and staff of the Atrium at Drum Hill for the compassion they showed her during her stay with them.
