Mrs. Alexandria "Alice" Higgins

February 14, 1936 - January 7, 2012

Alexandria “Alice” Higgins Loving Mother and Grandmother LOWELL—Alexandria “Alice” (Gerakines) Higgins, 75, the beloved wife of the late Edward F. Higgins, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Lowell General Hospital following a brief illness with cancer. Alice was born in Lowell on February 14, 1936, a daughter of the late Kyriakos and Lemo (Penetropoulas) Gerakines. She was educated in Lowell Schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. She resided in Lowell all of her life. In her early years, Alice grew up in the Pawtucketville neighborhood. Prior to her retirement, Alice was a quality controller for 35 years at Americraft Co. in South Lowell. She was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church. Alice enjoyed vacationing by the ocean at Seabrook Beach, NH. She liked the outdoors and also playing softball, cards and, Keno. The Golden Girls and Country Music, and watching sports, especially baseball on TV rate as some of her favorite things. Most of all, Alice was a loving grandmother who adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving Mrs. Higgins are her children, Edward P. Higgins of Lowell, Patricia Gaudette of Dracut, Dorothy Chartier and her husband Joseph of Concord, NH, Karen Higgins of Lowell, and Kathleen Martin and her husband Alan of Hudson, MA; five brothers, Perry Gerakines of GA, Johnny Gerakines of Lowell, Steve Gerakines of Reading, MA, Kydiakos Gerakines of Lowell, and James Gerakines of CA; four sisters, Pauline Soukaras of Marlborough, MA, Rose Furbish and her husband Dick of Loudon, NH, Marilyn Wilson, and Mary Gerakines; twelve grandchildren, Laura and her boyfriend J.P., Genevieve, Kristen, Alexandria, Tricia, Nicole, James and his fiancé Maly, Jared, Kal, Adam, Kevin, and Joey; two step grandchildren, Noah and Luke Martin; three great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Alice was the sister of the late Charlie and George Gerakines. FUNERAL NOTICE HIGGINS—In Lowell, January 7, 2012 at Lowell General Hospital. Alexandra “Alice” (Gerakines) Higgins, 75, wife of the late Edward F. Higgins. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on WEDNESDAY from 4 until 8 P.M. Her Funeral Service will take place on THURSDAY MORNING at 10 o’clock in the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
