Mr. William H. "Bill" Daly, Jr.

William “Bill” Daly Jr., 78, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday May 16th, surrounded by the love of his family. Born to William Daly Sr. and Vera Daly, Bill grew up in Lowell, MA. He attended Sacred Heart grammar school, and graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1966. He enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Saratoga. Billy spent his working life on the rails, starting as a gandydancer and rising to track foreman for the Boston and Maine Railroad, and later Amtrak. He took pride in honest work and the brotherhood of the men he worked alongside, and his stories from those years became some of his most beloved. He was known as a man of warmth and humor, a story for every occasion and the timing to land every punchline. He enjoyed his numerous trips to Maine with Hunters-no-Hunters. While the stories were meant to stay up there, the countless laughs, memories, and stories resonated for years. He was lifetime member of the Tyngsboro Sportsman club and the East End Club. He loved country music on the radio, horseshoes, a day spent on the ocean fishing with friends and family, his dog McGregor on his lap, and a cold Budweiser at the end of a long day. Simple pleasures, lived deeply. But more than anything, Bill loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie “Mae” Hebert Daly, they would have celebrated their 45th anniversary on May 22nd; his son, Ryan P. Daly, and daughter-in-law, Andrea Daly, of Indiana; and his four cherished grandchildren — Ashlyn, Grant, Laurel, and Autumn — who knew him as the proudest, most loving Grandpa a kid could ever hope for. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael Daly and his wife Joanne, Dennis Daly and Candy LaFreniere, and his sister, Dorothy “Tilli” Helmar, all of Lowell, along with many extended family members and dear friends. He had a very special bond with his in-laws Renee and John Nichols, Pearl and Ray Bergeron, George “Hee-bee” Hebert, Bernie and Robin Hebert, Barbara and Ervin Leonard, Shirley and Gerry L’Heuroux, his mother and father-in-law Pearl and George Hebert, as well as the late Karen Chenelle and Shawn Hebert. Billy will be remembered for his humor that could light up any room, his quiet strength in the hardest moments, his kindness to everyone he met, and his unwavering commitment to the family he loved with all his heart. He leaves behind a lifetime of laughter, stories, and love that will live on in everyone who knew him. He is deeply missed. Tight lines, fair winds, and following seas Dad.
