Viola B. McCarthy Loving Mother and Grandmother LOWELL—Viola B. (Muldoon) McCarthy, 91, a member of a well known Lowell family, passed away on Tuesday evening, November 8, 2011 at Saints Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late James P. McCarthy who died in 1977. Viola was born in Lowell on January 28, 1920, a daughter of the late Jim and Nora (Lynch) Muldoon. She was educated in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. For over 25 years Viola and her husband were proprietors of the Community Store in Tewksbury Hospital. She was a longtime Belvidere resident and a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church and a former member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. Viola was a gentle and caring woman. She was devoted to her family and to her work. She was a people person, and was always interested in the politics and happenings in the City of Lowell. Most recently, Viola enjoyed attending the Adult Day Program at D’Youville Senior Care Center. She made many friends both there and at her home on Middle Street. Surviving Mrs. McCarthy are her son and daughter-in-law, Terrence J. and Kathleen McCarthy of Lowell; her grandchildren, T.J. McCarthy and Mary Beth Kazanjian of Lowell, Sean and Karen McCarthy of Ridgewood, NJ, Patricia McCarthy of Wakefield, and Meredith and Michael Simpson of Virginia Beach, VA; five great grandchildren, Annie, Katie, and Sean McCarthy, and Megan and Sophia Simpson; her sister, Mary Muldoon of Lowell, and many nieces, nephews, cousin and friends, including her special friend Katherine McCarthy. Viola was the mother of the late James M. McCarthy, Edward L. McCarthy and Patrick J. McCarthy and sister of the late Catherine Fadden and John Muldoon. FUNERAL NOTICE McCARTHY—In Lowell, November 8, 2011 at Saints Medical Center, Viola B. (Muldoon) McCarthy, 91, wife of the late James P. McCarthy. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL on SUNDAY from 3 until 6 PM. Mrs. McCarthy’s Funeral will begin on MONDAY MORNING at 10 o’clock from the Funeral Home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 o’clock at THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH (LOWER CHURCH), 144 East Merrimack St., Lowell. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury.
