Mrs. Petra Marcano

Petra Marcano Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother LOWELL—Petra Marcano, a resident of the Acre Neighborhood, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Lowell General Hospital. She was 82 years old. Born in Naranjito, Puerto Rico on February 13, 1932, she was the second of seven children, and the first daughter of the late Demetrio Marcano and Tomasa Sanchez. Petra attended school in Naranjito and graduated from high school there. She married Bernardo Molina in 1948, when she was 16 years old. She had her first child, Carmen, 16 years later in 1964. Bernardo passed away on April 8, 1984 after having celebrated 36 years of marriage together. Petra worked as a custodian in Puerto Rico with her best friend, Carmen Iris Febus. Petra and Carmen enjoyed each other’s company for years, sharing many good times together. Petra enjoyed playing Bingo, Dominos, and cards. Petra came to the United States in 1992 and settled in Lowell two years later. She always made her home with her daughter Carmen. Her daughter was her whole world. In 1994, Petra began visiting a Pentecostal Church, Iglesia Trono Celestial in Lowell. Her church quickly became a big part of her life. He best friend from church, Anna Morales, was very important to her. She loved to sing at her church, enhancing the music ministry. Some of Petra’s passions were yellow roses and singing to her great grandchildren. Her singing would invoke the little ones to dance for her, which she cherished. She also had a much loved Chihuahua, “Baby.” She was always checking in with her son Papo, and was especially proud of his son Lance Corporal Hector Blas, a new member of the United States Marine Corps. Most of all, Petrita loved spending time and being with her family. Surviving Petra are her daughters Carmen Bermudez and her husband Eugenio Bermudez; her son and nephew that she raised since he was 2 years old, Javier Blas and his wife Ivette Blas; her grandchildren, Nelly Cortes, Denisse Collazo, Frances Collazo, Francisco Collazo, Javier Blas, Jr., Alexis Blas, Janet Blas, Javier H. Blas, Andres X. Blas, Zavira M. Blas, Hector A. Blas, Glorivette Somoza, Carlos A. Somoza; her great grandchildren, Carlos Cortes, Johanna Cortes, Kalil A. Blas, Kiana A. Blas, Noah A. Blas, Unique M. Jimenez, and Hector A. Blas, Jr.; her sisters and brothers, Angelina Marcano, Marfelia Guzman, Miguel Marcano, Angel Marcano, and Jose Marcano. Petra was the sister of the late Ramon Marcano.
