Patrick J. McCarthy Spirited Political Activist LOWELL—Patrick J. McCarthy, 52, the beloved son of Viola B. McCarthy, passed away on December 7, 2010 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, following a brief illness. Patrick was born in Lowell on February 21, 1958, a son of Viola B. (Muldoon) McCarthy of Lowell who survives him and the late James P. McCarthy who died in 1977. Pat received his education in the Lowell School System and was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of 1976. He also attended Niagara University in Niagara Falls, NY. He was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church. For many years, Pat was affiliated with the family business, James P. McCarthy & Sons of Lowell, a food service and distribution company. Pat was a kind and lively individual. His passion was politics, especially local politics. Pat was a spirited political activist in Lowell, the city he loved so much. He was a member and past treasurer of the Belvidere Neighborhood Association and the Vice Chairman of Lowell Ward II Democratic City Committee. Many will remember Pat as the vivacious radio personality on AM 980, WCAP radio in Lowell. Pat is survived by his mother, Viola B. McCarthy of Lowell; his brother Terrence J. McCarthy and his wife Kathleen of Lowell; his nephews and nieces, T.J. McCarthy and Mary Beth Kazanjian of Lowell, Sean and Karen McCarthy of Ridgewood, NJ, Patricia McCarthy of Wakefield, and Meredith Simpson of South Carolina; his great nieces and great nephew, Annie, Katie, and Sean McCarthy of NJ, and Megan and Sophia Simpson of SC. Pat also leaves many dear friends in the city of Lowell. FUNERAL NOTICE McCarthy—In Burlington, December 7, 2010. Patrick J. McCarthy, 52, a lifelong Lowell resident. Pat’s Funeral Mass will follow at 11 o’clock at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH (LOWER CHURCH) 144 East Merrimack Street, Lowell. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury.
