Mr. Michael E. Shaughnessy

HAMPTON, NH --Michael Edward Shaughnessy, 42, originally of Lowell, MA, currently living in Hampton, NH, passed away on March 15, 2021, due to complications from a previous illness, with his loving fiancée, Melodi, by his side. Michael was born on August 3, 1978 to Leo and Ellen (Cawthorne) Shaughnessy in Lowell, MA. After graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1997, he went on to study Sports Management at Springfield College. Michael played many sports and could often pick up a new one on his first try, but basketball held his heart and brought joy to him for many years. Michael played basketball at Central Catholic High School, Springfield College, and St. Mary’s University (Halifax, Nova Scotia). Michael loved to travel and explore new places. He spent time in many cities including Boston, Halifax, Martha’s Vineyard, and various places down South. He loved to meet new people and learn as much as he could wherever he went. While Michael’s later years were full of ups and downs, he never stopped trying to be a better person, helping those around him, and loving the people who mattered most to him. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his adventurous spirit, and his “dopey” look. He is survived by his parents, Leo and Ellen Shaughnessy of Lowell; his fiancée, Melodi Eaton, and his siblings, Katie Bonnett and her husband Greg, Meghan McCabe and her husband Patrick, David Brown and his wife Analise, and Ciara Shaughnessy and her boyfriend Chris Gill; his Uncle Edward Cawthorne and Aunt Nancy Byrne, of Stow, MA, his Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Bruce Hodgkins; and his 4 nieces and 4 nephews who will enjoy the fun and outrageous stories of their Uncle for years to come. Michael had many friends and family members who impacted his life in positive and lasting ways; his friend who became family to him Bill Little and his wife Deborah, the Hickey Family, his teacher and mentor Barbara Curran, his friend Chris Burns, as well as many others. His family would like to thank those who have always supported and loved the Shaughnessy family. Michael was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, J. Leeland and Ruth Cawthorne, his paternal grandparents Leo and Margaret Shaughnessy, and his Uncle and godfather Kevin Shaughnessy. SHAUGHNESSY- In Hampton, NH, March 15, 2021, Michael E. Shaughnessy, 42, the beloved son of Leo and Ellen (Cawthorne) Shaughnessy. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on SATURDAY from 11 AM until 3 PM. In following with the current guidelines, face coverings must be worn and social distancing measures will be in place.
