MICHAEL L. MARCOUX Andover Educator and Businessman Michael Leo Marcoux, of Andover MA, died peacefully Thursday June 8 at his home, after a short battle with cancer. Close family and friends were by his side. Michael was born and raised in nearby Lawrence and was predeceased by his loving parents Leo and Gertrude Marcoux. Michael was a loving son and took such wonderful care of his parents. Michael attended Central Catholic High School in Lawrence and Merrimack College in North Andover. He later attended Tufts University where he earned his Masters’ Degree in Psychology. He worked part time in the ER at Lawrence General Hospital, treating patients with psychological needs for 10 years. It was his full-time job at Andover High School where Michael influenced and counseled hundreds of students for more than 30 years. Michael served as Senior Class Advisor, Student Government Advisor and organized and attended many senior class trips to Europe. He encouraged his students to read by establishing a Book Club. There is no end to the ways Michael mentored countless students over the years. Michael had many interests and especially New England sports. He loved his Red Sox and enjoyed going to Fenway to watch a game. Come Fall, Michael loved watching and keeping up with the Patriots. During the summer months, Michael could be found at The Park at Hampton Beach in Hampton, NH. Michael co-owned the Park with longtime friend and business partner, Mary Ellen Fennessy McDermott. They took over operations from their parents who purchased the park in 1965. Michael enjoyed planting flowers throughout the park and developed quite a green thumb under the tutelage of his dear friend and colleague, Josephine Golden. Michael could be seen riding around the park in his golf cart, responding to every emergency from water leaks to errant raccoons and wildlife that refused to cooperate with the park rules. When the park closed and the weather turned colder, Michael retreated to his home in Laconia on Lake Winnipesaukee. Michael enjoyed snowshoeing in the winter months and loved spending time with close friends who live nearby. A fun night out with friends and family often meant laughs and drinks overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee from Church Landing in Meredith. Michael had a sharp eye for art. He enjoyed attending the Newburyport Art show every September with cousin, Carolyn Cox and close friends Rich and Mary Langlois. Christmas was a favorite time for Michael. He loved buying gifts for family and friends and his generosity was endless. He enjoyed decorating for the holidays and had amassed a large collection of fun and decorative snowmen that could be found throughout his home. His holiday spirit was truly infectious. Michael is survived by his beloved Aunt and Godmother, Theresa M Cox, cousins Audrey Cox and M. Carolyn Cox and Gene Manley, all of Lowell, and extended family members Jack Conway and his wife Noreen of Billerica. Close friends Sally O'Brien, Mary Ellen Fennessy McDermott and Godson, Patrick McDermott. He was predeceased by close friends Rick O'Brien and Bill McDermott. His family would like to acknowledge and thank Doctor Jessica Weiselquist, Beacon Hospice and A and B Nursing Care for their care and comfort. Friends and family may pay their respects at Fay McCabe Funeral Home, 105 Moore Street in Lowell on THURSDAY, June 15, 2023 from 2 until 8 PM. There will also be calling hours from 9 AM until 10:30 AM on FRIDAY MORNING at ST. ROBERT BELLARMINE CHURCH, 198 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover, followed by Michael’s FUNERAL MASS at 11AM. Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. MA.
