Mary A. Curran Loving mother, grandmother, sister: 83 Chelmsford, MA - Mary A. (Roberts) (Tierney) Curran 83, passed peacefully from this life on Friday April 28th at her home surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Lowell, MA on July 30, 1939, a daughter of the late John J. and Anna V. (Garrity) Roberts. She was educated in Lowell and attended ST Joseph’s High School. She grew up on Chambers Street in Lowell with her parents and 11 brothers and sisters. She married John P. Tierney JR., with whom she had six children and shared life until his unfortunate passing. Mary later married John F. Curran, whom she loved and admired and enjoyed a beautiful life for 27 years. Mary, known as Lal to her closest friends, owned and operated Lal’s cleaning service for over forty years. Lal was always the entrepreneur operating several catering businesses over the years, and she cherished her time operating the snack shack at the Hovey Baseball field in Dracut which has since been dedicated as Lal’s snack shack. Lal embraced her many roles – daughter, sister, mother, Nana, and dear friend to many. Lal always had a big smile on her face even during the most difficult of times. She enjoyed family gatherings where she would often dance and laugh the time away. Lal had the uncanny ability to make anyone she met smile and feel like an old friend. Lal was passionate about her catholic faith, loving, caring, strong, and cherished her family most of all. She enjoyed watching all the Boston Sports Teams, and an occasional Margarita and Keno lunch with her family. Lal was treasured by her devoted children, Michael and Denise Tierney, Edward and Kathryn Tierney, John P. Tierney III, and his partner Jeannette Silva, Robert Tierney and his partner Laurie Pender and her children Phillip and Kenneth Pender, her daughter Kathleen (Tierney) Devlin, Patrick Tierney, and retired Chelmsford Fire Chief Michael Curran and his wife Gail. She was cherished by her grandchildren, Michael Curran Jr and his wife Jamie, Devin Curran, Kaleigh Tierney and her husband Michael Jenkins, Ellen, Matthew, Nicholas, Emily, Allison, and Ashley Tierney. Christopher, Stephanie, and Jeremy Eberhard. Several Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mary is also survived by several siblings, Walter and Karen Roberts, Fred and Theresa Roberts, and Sister Helen Roberts O.S.F. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Debra (Tierney) Hayden and her husband Michael. Mary was predeceased by her first husband John P. Tierney Jr. and her Late husband John F. Curran. Brothers Francis, John, and Paul Roberts. Her sisters Marion Sweeny, Rita Coughlin, Eileen Shea, Anne Casey, and Dorothy Roberts. Family and Friends may call at THE FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on THURSDAY, MAY 4, 2023, from 4 until 8 PM. MARY’S FUNERAL will begin on FRIDAY MORNING at 9 o’clock from the Funeral Home, followed by her FUNERAL MASS at 10 o’clock at ST. PATRICK’S CHURCH, Suffolk St. Lowell. Burial will follow in ST. MARY’S CEMETERY, Tewksbury.
