Mrs. Maria Brum Clemente

Maria Brum Clemente Maria Do Rosario De Fatima Pereira Brum Clemente, age 86, passed away peacefully from advanced Dementia in Reston, VA on November 28th, 2021 at the home of her middle daughter Laurinda and granddaughter Amanda, with whom she lived this past year. Prior to that, Maria lived in Lowell, Chelmsford and spent over 20 years in Somerville, MA. Maria was a native of the Azores Islands of Portugal. She was born in Vila Franca do Campo, São Miguel, Azores on March 13th, 1935. Maria immigrated to the USA in 1976 and became a very proud US Citizen in the late 90’s. She appreciated and loved living in the United States of America. Maria was a wonderful cook, and it was one of the main ways she expressed love to those around her. She made the best Portuguese food. She loved feeding her kids and grandkids, family and friends. For Easter, she baked delicious Portuguese sweet bread decorated with colored eggs and almonds for each of her grandkids. She cooked large turkeys on Thanksgiving (well into her late 70’s) and had the whole family over. Christmas was also a special time as she decorated the house beautifully and loved being in the company of her family. Maria loved nature and was amazing at gardening. She definitely had a “green thumb”! She loved flowers, plants, and all animals. Maria retired from Corona Curtain Factory in South Boston. She often talked about how much she enjoyed taking buses and trains throughout the city. Although she was not fluent in English, she had no fear of speaking. Maria loved interacting with kind strangers, and always seemed to make herself understood. While living in Lowell, She enjoyed attending events at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church and “festas” at the Reds Portuguese club with her daughters Lenore and Margarida. Maria also always… enjoyed a trip to a clothing store. She loved looking through the racks and finding pretty outfits. In June of 2021 Maria was able to take a very special trip to Fatima, Portugal - a holy place which she was named after. She also visited Lisbon for the first time, and her birthplace the Island of Saint Michael, Azores for one last time. Maria is survived by Daughters: Leonor Tibbetts Clemente, Laurinda Clemente, Margarida DeJesus Clemente and Son Joe Clemente. Grandkids: Christine, Jeff, Eric, Mark, Amy, Ricky, Amanda, Eva and Sylvie. Siblings: Manuel, Estrela and Anselmo. Daughter in law: Gilberta. Sister in laws: Isabel, Deodata and Rosaria. Brother in law: Libby Sr. and many wonderful nephews, nieces, cousins and great grand kids. Maria was the daughter of her late beloved parents: Jose Furtado Brum and Maria do Carmo Pereira Brum. The wife of the late: Manuel Moniz Clemente (died Nov 29th, 1996). Mother to first born son, the late: Victor Manuel Clemente (died July 1st, 2015). Sister to the late: Jose Pereira Brum and Emiliana (Emily) Brum Scoppettuolo. Aunt to the late: Margaret De Jesus Brum and Sister in law to the late: Carlos Frias. FUNERAL NOTICE Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on THURSDAY from 4 until 8 PM. Maria’s Funeral will begin on FRIDAY MORNING at 9 o’clock from the Funeral Home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 o’clock at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church, 893 Central St. Lowell. Burial immediately following in The Lowell Cemetery. Following the Cemetery Services, A Celebration of Maria’s Life will be held at The Red’s Portuguese Club, Lowell – MA.
