Kalliope “Popie” Yfantopulos Loving Mother and Grandmother LOWELL – Kalliope “Popie” Yfantopulos died Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the Marley House, in Prescott, AZ, with her children by her side. Born in Jamaica Queens, NY on August 20, 1940, she was the daughter of the late George and Dora Flomp. Popie grew up in San Jose, CA and lived in many places during her life on the East Coast, West Coast and in Athens, Greece. In the 1970’s, Popie moved to Danvers, MA where she owned and operated the Portside Diner for ten years. Her life was full of business adventures and she always knew how to turn lemons into lemonade. She did this by turning a burnt down diner into a thriving restaurant. She did it again when she turned her home in Barton, VT into a beautiful inn, after it had flooded. Her absolute passion, above all else, was her love of cooking for her family, her friends and her customers. As a Greek mother and Yia-Yia, food was LOVE! Popie is survived by her daughter, Dora Thagouras of Stamford, CT, her son and daughter-in-law, George and Susan (Ahern) Yfantopulos of Lowell and her sister, Astelle Larson of Prescott, AZ. She was the proud grandmother of James, Phillip, Michael, Sophia, Abigail, and Jacqueline. Popie loved all of her family, friends, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was also the former wife of Tom Yfantopulos who passed away in 2010. Popie was the sister of the late Anna (Flomp) Janci and Christopher Flomp. FUNERAL NOTICE YFANTOPULOS – In Prescott, AZ January 1, 2017 at Marley House, Kalliope “Popie” Yfantopulos, 76, formerly of Lowell. Family and Friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL on SUNDAY January 8th from 2 until 6 PM. Ms. Yfantopulos’ Funeral will begin on MONDAY MORNING January 9th at 9 o’clock from the Funeral Home, followed by her FUNERAL SERVICE at 10 o’clock at HOLY TRINITY GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 62 Lewis Street, Lowell. Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
