Mrs. Joyce M. Shanley

LOWELL- Joyce M. (Martin) Shanley, 82, peacefully passed away at her home on February 16, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born in Lowell on July 9, 1943 to her beloved parents, Leo and Lena (Mellon) Martin. She and her three siblings were raised in Lowell and attended Lowell schools. After graduating from Lowell High School, Joyce continued her education at Middlesex Community College where she earned her nursing degree and went on to pass the boards to become an RN. Lowell is also where Joyce raised her own family with her beloved husband Michael H. Shanley who passed away in 2012. She was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church and volunteered her time as the St. Margaret's Elementary School school nurse after retiring from Tewksbury State Hospital in 2007. Joyce was also a part of the "St. Margaret's Crafters" who would gather together to knit and crochet. Joyce loved bowling and was part of the" Bowling Girls". She enjoyed puzzles and traveling and loved antiquing at her vacation home in North Conway. Joyce's home was where family and friends gathered. In the winter months Sunday Dinners took place on London Street and Christmas Eve with the entire family was hosted there. Joyce was the glue and loved hosting. She was an animal lover and took wonderful care of her childhood pet monkey, Peter. Joyce will be greatly missed by her " babies"; dog Jasper and cat Marley. There is nothing Joyce enjoyed more than being with her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was her greatest joy and filled her with pride . Joyce is survived by her daughter Leah Sue Shanley and her fiancee' Robert Vandinter, both of Lowell, her sons Michael Shanley of RI, Patrick Shanley and his wife Gisele of Brazil, and Daniel Shanley and his wife Linda of CA; her grandchildren Rianna Santino and her husband Nick, Kelsey Harlost and her husband Mike, Christa Shanley, Michael Shanley, Paige Shanley, Madie Shanley, Jacqui Shanley, Nicole Anderson and her husband Oli, Bre Newell, Sean Arpin and his wife Stephanie, and CJ Bozek; her great grandchildren Rowna, Greyson, Lochan, Emily, Olivia, Harry, Russel and Frances; sister-in-law Cyndy Martin of FLA, formerly of Billerica. Joyce was the sister of the late Kenneth Martin, Earl Martin and Marilyn (Martin ) Hand; several nieces and nephews, grand nieces/nephews and many loving friends.
