Mr. Joseph Chomthakham

Joseph “Joe” Chomthakham, 22, of Lowell, MA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at his home. He was born on February 28, 1999 as the beloved son of Soumetta “Lah” Chomthakham. Joe worked as an Environmental Health and Safety Management Coordinator at UMass Lowell and previously was an Event Manager for student activities. He was a Class of 2021 UMass Lowell graduate where he earned a B.S. in Environmental Science. Joe grew up in Watertown, MA; he attended Watertown public schools and graduated with honors from Watertown High School in 2017. Throughout his teenage years, he was a camp counselor and tutor with the Watertown Boys and Girls Club where he thoroughly appreciated the opportunity to work with children. More than anything, Joe treasured his time with family. He loved children and especially enjoyed spending time with all his cousins. He enjoyed gaming, socializing, and celebrating good times with his close college friends. He cherished his Mom’s cooking, especially her chicken wings & ribs with sticky rice. In addition to his mother Lah, Joe leaves Lah’s fiancé, James V. Tessier of Lowell, MA. He was the adored grandson of the late Kom and Chanthachone Chomthakham of Watertown, MA. He is survived by his uncles, Sompheng Maokhamphiou of Lowell, MA, Somboun Chomthakham of Lawrenceville, GA and Somchai Chomthakham of Holbrook, MA. He was predeceased by his uncle Somvang Maokhamphiou of Oklahoma City, OK. He also leaves behind his aunts, Sompathana Vannabouthong of Longwood, FL and Chitpanya Pham of Baton Rouge, LA. He enjoyed many trips and visits with each of their families and revered his many cousins. In addition, he leaves behind Noel J. Tessier of Attleboro, MA and the Tessier, Curley, Laverty & Hartley families that loved him. Family and close friends are cordially invited to his home at 16 Gibson Rd, Lowell, MA on Thursday, September 9 at 4pm for a traditional Buddhist ceremony. All are welcome to honor and remember Joe at the Fay McCabe Funeral Home, 105 Moore Street, Lowell, MA on Friday, September 10 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Traditional Buddhist funeral services will take place Saturday at the Fay McCabe Funeral Home starting at 7:00am and will be followed by a funeral procession to Newton Cemetery Chapel & Crematory, 791 Walnut St., Newton Centre, MA for final prayers and blessings.
