Jose A. Rodriguez “Chino” Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather LOWELL—Jose A. “Chino” Rodriguez, 61, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Flor M. Huertas. Jose was born in Comerio, Puerto Rico on September 9, 1960, a son of Martin Rodriguez and Natividad Morales. He came to the United States with his family in 1966. We thought the best way to capture the true essence of Chino, beyond his love of baseball, his years of intramural softball and dancing with the love of his life, Flor, would be the words of those who loved him the most and for whom he lived everyday, his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. Nay: Papi was always there when I needed him. Especially if I needed to smile, he was always there with a funny joke or a good story. He ensured there was never a birthday celebration, baseball game, football game, holiday or even open house where we weren’t all together. We were blessed with the time we had with Pa and I will forever be thankful for everything he did for my family and I. Johan: My dad was my best friend and the person I would go to whenever I was in need of a laugh or advice. Remembering you will be easy but missing you will be the heartache that will never go away. He was just truly amazing, he was the best Papi and grandpa. I will forever love you and hold you close to my heart Jose: My father was my hero. He was my best friend and I always looked up to him. He always taught me to never give up and always push forward in life. He would always say that family came first. I will miss him everyday. Mikey: Jose, Chino, Papi…he was known by many names and each held their own special meaning. Jose was a great guy everyone could go to and rely on for anything. If you needed something he was there for you no questions asked. Chino was the comedian, the story teller. If he was in the mood to talk you were guaranteed to be laughing all day. And Papi, he was the family man, someone who always put his family first and loved us unconditionally. When it came to his family, he never missed a drop off, pick up or phone call. I love you Pa Matheo: Enough can’t be said about my grandfather, he was a kind and thoughtful man who valued family above all else. Volumes could be written by those he leaves behind of lessons he’s taught, stories he’s told, and roaring laughs he was responsible for. I will forever hold onto how Pa would sacrifice anything and everything for his loved ones, he never missed a sporting event, a school fair, a ride to or from the airport, a church event, a christening, or a birth. Papi always showed up. Once his young grandsons asked him to stop smoking so that we could have more time with him, that day he quit and never smoked again. That’s the kind of family man my grandfather was. Anaiyah: My grandfather was the most dependable person I knew. He never hesitated to offer his help to those around him. I would call him the night before I needed a ride to practice or a game and no matter how last minute I was his response was always “Yes hun, I’ll be there”. He never failed to show up for the people he loved because that’s the kind of person he was. Chui: My Grandpa and I were always joking around. It was mostly about how he had no hair. He took every chance he had to make people laugh. He is someone that could always put a smile on my face. Kaley & Ari: You were an additional grandpa to us and we loved you so much. You will be truly missed. We will miss your funny jokes and sneaking you beers from Flor. We love you and will always hold you close to our hearts. We are so happy that we got to spend time with you recently. Savy and Kayla: Our grandpa would always play with us. Our favorite thing to do was play in a band together with our instruments. He would play the keyboard and we would play the harmonicas. Vida: She doesn’t now but his great granddaughter will know the man he was. She always embraced him first when visiting, something we know would never stop bothering Ma. She loved to hear his laugh and was the little reason he became a great grandfather at just 60. We call her Veda but he called her his Vida. Jose is survived by his wife Flor; his three children and their families, Nayana M. McLaughlin and her husband Matthew E. McLaughlin, Johanna R. Santiago and her husband Miguel A. Santiago, and Jose A. Rodriguez, Jr.; his grandchildren, Michael A. McLaughlin, Matthew E. McLaughlin, Jr., Anaiyah M. Rivera, Arianna L. Rivera, Savannah A. Santiago, Mikaylah L. Santiago, Kaley A. Santiago, and Ariana L. Santiago; one great granddaughter, Veda Barbara McLaughlin; his siblings, Martin Rodriguez, Jr., Ruben Rodriguez, Orlando Rodriguez, Jeannette Rodriguez, Nelson Rodriguez, Nayda I. Rodriguez, Betty A. Rodriguez, Charles Rodriguez, and Jimmy Rodriguez; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Chino on FRIDAY from 4 until 8 PM at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL. His FUNERAL will begin on SATURDAY MORNING at 9 AM from the Funeral Home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 144 E. Merrimac St. Lowell.
