JOHN J. McLEAN Beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather BILLERICA--John J. McLean was born in Brewer, Maine, on August 28, 1930. He was a son of Ernest and Margaret (Jeffrey) McLean. He spent his early years in Maine and later moved to the Boston, Massachusetts area. John was married to the late Mary P. (Lyons) McLean who passed away in 1999. They had many happy years together. John was formerly married to the late Rosemary (Tebeau) McLean who passed away in 2002. John had a great love for dogs, one of his first being a Saint Bernard, and his last, a lovable mutt named Toby-Joe who was near and dear to his heart. He enjoyed watching football, baseball, and basketball. John played high school basketball in Orono, Maine, and later in life played basketball with his children. He was a master at billiards, and was considered a local pool shark. He loved playing cards and doing complicated puzzles. He enjoyed painting by numbers and doing home craft carpentry projects. John cooked awesome country breakfasts, loved to bake cookies, and made great homemade soups (especially his beef stew). At home, he planted many a vegetable garden and evergreens that reminded him of the trees from his childhood home in Maine. John served in the Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Germany as a radio operator. After the War, in his early years, he worked in Boston area hospitals and later as a framer/boilermaker at the Charlestown Naval Shipyard. He belonged to many Veteran Organizations and was well liked at the Billerica VFW and the Tewksbury DAV/American Legion. Our Dad was a man who cared deeply for those in need, especially the elderly and mentally challenged. He befriended and cared for those who were less fortunate. John even took care of his former wife Rosemary Eaton who was suffering from ALS. He was a real gem of a man. He was a quiet man, a humble man, not wanting much in earthly goods or riches but preferred to give more than to receive. He was very generous to his kids. He loved his children, considered his greatest treasure, and will be greatly missed by all. Rest In Peace our loving Dad - we will miss you. John is survived by his two sons, John J. McLean, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Woburn, and David K. McLean and his wife Suzanne of Dracut; his daughter, Gail Shaw of Merrimack, NH; his grandchildren, David Shaw, Sarah Shaw, Emily McLean, Brendan McLean, Michael McLean, Stephen McLean, Kathryn McLean, Blake Allen, and Robert French IV; six great grandchildren; a brother, Lincoln McLean of Weymouth. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was the father of the late Patricia Cunningham and Robert French III, and the brother of the late Earl, Edward, George, and Marion McLean. At the McLean Family’s request, private Funeral Services will take place, with burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell. As an expression of sympathy, in-lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to any Veteran Organization of your choice.
