James P. Foley Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather CHELMSFORD--James P. Foley, a long-time resident of Chelmsford, MA, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at home. Born February 17, 1943 in Lowell, MA to James P. and Mary R. (McCabe) Foley, Jim had two sisters: the late Sister St. James (Patricia) and Margaret Foley. In 1966, Jim and Mary (Buchinskas) of Barre, MA, wed and they shared 56 years of marriage. Jim worked for many years as a nuclear power engineer at Stone & Webster in Boston, MA. He later continued his work in the nuclear power industry as a consultant, working to improve safety at various power plants. Jim loved the outdoors and when his children were young, he took the family on many camping and hiking trips over the years. When out in nature, he was never without a copy of Peterson’s Guide to Eastern Birds in his back pocket. He loved looking for and identifying interesting birds. He had a passion for alpine skiing and passed this love on to his family. He made many friends as a ski instructor at Nashoba Valley Ski Area and after an evening of skiing, you could often find him having a beer at the Old Oaken Bucket. Jim loved sports in general, but basketball, tennis and cycling were his favorites. Never did a July pass without the Tour de France on his television. He really enjoyed riding his bike with his buddies in Carlisle and Concord, and sometimes out to Rockport and the Cape. He even occasionally participated in local races, such as the “Tour de Lowell.” Jim loved his family and spent lots of time with his grandchildren, going to their sports games to cheer them on. He was very proud of his grandchildren. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary and their three children: Tricia Clarke, her husband Don and their daughter Hillary, Erica Smith, her husband Sean and their children Daniel and Caroline, and Jim Foley III. Family and friends may call at the FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on MONDAY from 4 until 6 PM. Jim’s Funeral will begin on TUESDAY MORNING AT 10 AM from the Funeral Home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 AM at ST. MARY’S CHURCH, 25 North Rd. CHELMSFORD. Burial in ST. JOSEPH’S CEMETERY, Chelmsford.
