Mrs. Irene Mitchell Kouloungis

Irene M. Kouloungis Devoted Mother, Grandmother LOWELL- Our beloved mother, Irene Mitchell (Fulis) Kouloungis, passed away peacefully on January 8th, 2026 surrounded by family. Irene was born in Athens, Greece on October 10, 1941 where she lived until emigrating to the United States in 1945. Her family settled in Portsmouth, New Hampshire where they built a strong community deeply connected to their Greek roots and heritage. She met Robert Kouloungis at a Greek Festival in Dover, New Hampshire where they fell in love, were married in 1961, and moved to Lowell, MA. When asked what her greatest accomplishment was, Irene would answer without hesitation “my children”. She was a fiercely devoted mother to her children and grandchildren whom she adored. She had a special connection to her first-born granddaughter, Alexa Irene, and their bond was a source of great joy for her until Alexa’s untimely passing in 2012. Irene’s commitment to family was unwavering. She relished hosting large family gatherings in her home and always had room for extended family, neighbors, and friends. All left with a smile on their face, a full belly and an open invitation to return. In her home, everyone was family. Irene is survived by her eldest, son, Niclis Robert Kouloungis, and his wife Daphne Kouloungis and their children Ariana and Robert of Chelmsford, MA; her daughters Constance Saccone of Lowell, MA and Sofia Wacksman, and her husband Steve and their son Dashiell of New York, NY. Her beloved sister-in-law Laurie Fulis and her niece, Goddaughter and devoted caregiver, Pamela Kenyon, who were a special source of love and support. FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND IRENE’S CALLING HOURS ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 15, 2026, FROM 4 PM UNTIL 7 PM AT THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR SAVIOR GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 25 FATHER JOHN SARANTOS WAY, LOWELL, MA 01854. IRENE’S FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BEGIN AT 10:30 AM ON FRIDAY JANUARY 16, 2026 AT THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR SAVIOR GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH. BURIAL WILL FOLLOW AT ST. MARY’S CEMETERY, TEWKSBURY.
