Mrs. Geraldine B. Ward

BELLOWS FALLS, VT. – Geraldine “Gerry” Ward passed away peacefully at home on November 24, 2022, surrounded by her family. Gerry was born in Lowell and lived most of her life there. She graduated from Lowell High School and furthered her education with secretarial and business studies. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Robert “Bob” Ward (born in Billerica MA), her sons-in-law Mark Stradling and David Ferreira and her granddaughter Laura Ward. Bob and Gerry married in 1940 and had 2 children before he enlisted in the army in World War II and was sent to France and Germany. After the war they became the parents of seven more children. Their life was devoted to making a comfortable and safe home for their children. They both believed in education and although they had seven daughters and two sons all of them were educated. Gerry was very creative and artistic and loved to sew and knit and decorate her home to make it welcoming for her family. She came from a large family herself and would often get together with her sisters and brothers to enjoy a Sunday afternoon together in their parents’ beautiful garden. Later she and Bob hosted most of the Holiday family gatherings as well as many cookouts during the summer months. Her grandchildren spent summer days playing in her yard and above-ground pool. She loved to play games, particularly Scrabble and no one could beat her even when she was in her hundreds. Gerry had many lifelong friends and they all helped each other through tough times. She was always healthy and energetic and busy right up to her last few years. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her nine children, Carole Pritchard of Newburyport, MA, and husband Raymond, Ruth Ferreira of Tyngsboro, MA, Martha Ward of Mason NH, Mary Cardaci, of Salisbury MA, and husband Paul, Roberta Stradling, of Bellows Falls, VT, Colleen Scott, of Nashua NH, and husband Don, Robert Ward of Lowell, MA, and wife Kathy, John Ward, of Dunstable MA, and wife Michele, Jerilyn King of Norwood MA and husband Joe. She also has 17 grandchildren and 15 Great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Arrangements: Visiting hours will be from 9 AM until 11:30 AM on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2022 at the Fay-McCabe Funeral Home, 105 Moore St, Lowell, MA. Gerry's Funeral Mass will be held immediately after at 12 NOON in The Immaculate Conception Church, 144 E. Merrimack St, Lowell MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, 90 River Road, N. Tewksbury, MA.
