Mr. George T. "Jim" Carr

George T. “Jim” Carr Venice, FL, WWII Navy Vet, 93 Venice, Florida – George Thomas “Jim” Carr, 93 died peacefully on April 2, 2016 at Harbor Chase Assisted Living. Born in Charlestown, MA in 1923, Jim was the son of Daisy and William Carr. Jim was raised in Melrose, MA and lived there for over 45 years, raising his own family there in a beautiful house he built for them. He was married for 62 years to the late Dori (Corkery) Carr who died in 2010. Jim enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, and became a member of the Seabees. He was stationed in the Philippines and the Aleutian Islands, Alaska and received several medals and ribbons. Following his service he worked as a machinist at the South Boston Navy Shipyard. He and his wife retired to Venice, FL in 1979, and spent many happy years there enjoying life to the fullest. He was a great golfer, avid bridge player, square danced with Dorie, and an excellent handyman always helping out his neighbors and friends. He will be remembered for his quick wit, kindness, a twinkle in his eye, and always being a gentleman. Jim leaves his son, Jim Carr and his wife, Jackie of Dracut, his daughter, Cindy Barton and her husband, Pat, of Lancaster, PA, a daughter-in-law, Jeri Quirk Carr of Andover, seven grandchildren, Jamie Carr and his wife Andrea of Gardner, Breanna Carr of Dracut, Adam Steinmetz of Lancaster, PA, Scott Steinmetz of Troy, NY, Riley, Tegan, and Logan Carr of Andover, and two great grandchildren, Wynn and Brooke Carr. He also leaves a brother, Ed Carr of Venice, FL, a sister-in-law, Lil Carr of Melrose, and a brother-in-law, Tom Corkery of Melrose, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his son, David George Carr of Andover, in 2014. He was also a brother of the late William and Donald Carr and Daisy Rondeau. CARR- A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 9:00 am at St. Francis Parish, 115 Wheeler Road, Dracut, MA. Burial will be at a later date in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose, MA.
