Frederick A. McLaughlin “Fred” Loving Husband and Father Proud United States Marine Corps Veteran LOWELL—Frederick A. “Fred” McLaughlin, 77, a resident of Pawtucketville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Cote) McLaughlin. Fred was born in Lowell on July 19, 1943, a son of the late John J. and Lillian (O’Neil) McLaughlin. He was a lifelong resident of the city. He attended Lowell Schools. Following his education, Fred enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. and served for six years. Fred was employed at Prelco Corp. in Lowell as a welder for over 20 years. Upon retiring from Prelco, Fred realized he was not the sit at home type of guy. So, for the past 13 years, he worked at Consumer Auto Parts as a delivery driver, a job he loved. In his younger years, Fred participated in Lowell’s Golden Gloves Boxing and his love of the sport lasted a lifetime. This was something he passed on to his son. For many years, Fred enjoyed playing golf whenever he got the chance. He especially loved the many rounds he played with his brother. Fred also loved bowling and was on a team at the Brunswick Bowling Lanes. He also loved watching both sports on TV whenever he could. Fred was the kind of guy who had to be busy all the time. He loved doing things around the house, whether it was painting the fence, mowing the lawn, or just sweeping the pine needles in the driveway. He always had to be doing something. Fred loved his family unconditionally. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth McLaughlin of Lowell; his daughter, Kelly Vigorito and her husband Nick of Woburn; his son, Brad McLaughlin and his wife Dawn of Lowell; his son Shaun McLaughlin of Nashua; his daughter Bonnie McLaughlin; his son James McLaughlin; his brother, Richard McLaughlin and his wife June of Lowell; and his sister, Cheryl Soderquist and her husband Chester of Wilmington. Fred was the father of the late Timothy McLaughlin, and the brother of the late Vincent, John Jr., William, Donald, and David McLaughlin.
