Frank J. Carolan Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather LOWELL—Attorney Frank J. Carolan, 83, the beloved husband of Agnes M. (McLean) Carolan, and a resident of the Highlands section of Lowell, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, peacefully at his home. Frank was born in Lowell on July 9, 1932, a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (O’Regan) Carolan. He was a 1949 graduate of Keith Academy, and 1954 graduate of Lowell Tech. Frank pursued his love of photography as a photographic engineer, opening his own studio, then working at Raytheon and ITEK, later working on the Hasselblad Lens Program for NASA’s Apollo 11 Moon Landing. Frank was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church and a member of the Choir. Frank and his wife Agnes celebrated 55 years of marriage, raising four wonderful sons who gave them eight adoring grandchildren. Frank loved music and his Irish “Sessions” in Marblehead. He was a member and former president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 19. As a member of St. Margaret’s Church Choir, Frank and his wife Agnes traveled to the Vatican and performed for the Pope. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. Frank began his second career after attending Suffolk Law School, class of 1972. He opened his own firm and practiced in downtown Lowell for many years. Frank enjoyed vacations at Seabrook Beach and camping and had a love for boats and sailing. In addition to his wife Agnes, Frank is survived by his four sons, Edward Carolan and his wife AnnMarie, John Carolan and his wife Stella, Tim Carolan and his wife Carrie, all of Lowell, and Greg Carolan and his wife Hon of Melrose; eight grandchildren, Briana, Alexa, Grace, Maeve, Thomas, Ava, Talay, and Basil; a sister, Betty Couturier and her husband Don of Chesterfield, MI; also several nieces, nephews, cousins; his sister-in-law, Sr. Agnes Mary McLean of the Maryknoll Sisters of NY; his brother-in-law, Rev. George McLean, O.M.I. of Tewksbury. Frank was the brother-in-law of the late James McLean and Rev. Edward McLean. Frank’s family would like to acknowledge, with gratitude, the patient and caring staff at Lowell General Hospital and D’Youville. Mr. Carolan’s FUNERAL will begin on SATURDAY MORNING at 8:45 AM from the Funeral Home, followed by his FUNERAL MASS at 10 AM at ST. MARGARET’S CHURCH, 374 STEVENS ST. Lowell. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
