Mrs. Elizabeth "BettyAnne" (Rogers) DeCora

ELIZABETH “BETTYANNE” DeCORA Beloved Daughter, Wife, Mother, and Grandmother Elizabeth “BettyAnne” (Rogers) DeCora, of Oakdale, CT, died unexpectedly on August 4, 2021 while on vacation in Florida. She was born on August 19, 1952 at St. John’s Hospital, in Lowell, MA, to the late Dolores (Murphy) Rogers, and George F. Rogers, (formerly of Crowley St.). She was the beloved wife of Mark DeCora who survives her. She is also survived by her father, George F. Rogers and his current wife, Kathleen, of Largo, FL and Hudson, NH; 2 sons, Sean F. DeCora and Michael G. DeCora and his wife Megan, residing in S.E. Connecticut; plus 5 very precious grandchildren, Emily and Shamus of Inverness, FL, Brendan, Sean C. , and McKenna DeCora all of SE CT. She was preceded by her eldest son James E. DeCora, formerly of Lisbon, CT, plus her mother: Dolores (Murphy) Rogers and her much loved Grandfather, James Murphy, both from Lowell, MA. She graduated from High School at Keith Hall, in Lowell, MA in 1971 then joined the Navy. She served as a Hospital Corpsman (HM3) at Naval Hospitals in Newport, RI and Camp Lejeune, NC, during the last 3 years of the Viet Nam War. For at least part of that time, she is believed to have been the shortest person (50 in. tall) in the U.S. Navy. During the 1980’s and “90’s”, she completed numerous courses at Mohegan Community College, in Norwich, CT., alternating with periods of full-time work as an armed security guard at the Naval Underwater Sound Lab in New London, CT or at the Millstone Nuclear Power Station in Waterford, CT. For several years, Her mother lived with her to help raise her 3 sons while her husband was deployed on Navy Ships or attending Navy Schools in other States. In the early 2000’s she was the owner/operator of The Central Coffee Shop in the Greenville section of Norwich, Ct. then she began dedicating more time to volunteer organizations including being a Cub Scout Den Mother for 2 of her boys in Oakdale, CT and an assistant Leader of her Granddaughter’s Girl Scouts Troop in Lisbon, CT. BettyAnne was a parishioner of St. Mathias Parish in E. Lyme, CT. For the past two years she has worked as a security monitor at Tyl Middle School in Oakdale, CT. She was the beloved wife of Mark DeCora of Oakdale, CT who survives her; daughter of George Rogers of Largo, FL, loving mother of Sean F. DeCora and Michael G. DeCora of S.E. CT and the late James E.
