David L. Hemenway “Strong Silent Dave” 1946 - 2021 LOWELL—David L. Hemenway, 74, a resident of South Lowell, passed away peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. His fiancée, Barbara Edie was lovingly at his side, as she had been for 32 years. David was born in California on February 25, 1946, a son of Margaret Hemenway Snow. David moved to Massachusetts, and grew up in Framingham, Wayland, and Natick, graduating from Natick High School in 1965. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force. David worked, for many years, at Honeywell Co. and Bard in the shipping and receiving division. Dave loved taking yearly ski trips to Loon Mountain and beach vacations in Maine with Barbara. He especially loved Fourth of July picnics at Mary’s house. He enjoying the family gathering, and the Natick Fourth of July Parade with Rex Trailer on his horse, Goldrush. Animals loved David and he in turn loved his two cats. He especially enjoyed being at home watching movies, fixing things around the house, and working on Jan’s cottage. David loved his truck, going to the lake, and being on the boat. David‘s calming and quiet presence made him easy to be around and made him a wonderful friend. David is survived by the love of his life of 32 years, Barbara Edie; two sons, Kirk Hemenway and his wife, Amy and David “Lee” Hemenway and his girlfriend, Magan; his grandsons, Steven, Adam, and Benjamin; his brother, William “Billy” Snow; his sister Karen Ames; and his cousin, Mary Greenwood who raised him and was very special to him. David was the brother of the late John Snow. David was very fond of Barbara’s son, the late Robert Edie who passed away in April of 2004. DAVID L.
