Miss Barbara R. Hoar

Barbara R. Hoar November 1, 1933 – January 30, 2021 A lifelong resident of Lowell, Barbara Hoar died peacefully at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, MA, on January 30, 2021. Barbara has friends in many corners of Lowell. She worked at Fred C. Church in Lowell for nearly forty years, retiring to care for her father in his last years. She retained close ties to her F.C. Church friends as well as friends from her years with the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, through the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, Sacred Heart Parish and band and those from childhood. After her convent years, Barbara moved home with her parents, Henry and Ruth Hoar. She was a constant support to them. Barbara liked to travel independently to Florida and often went on cruises. She still has many friends in Florida. In her later years, she relished her daily drives and enjoyed getting to know people at her favorite stores and restaurants. Barbie was the anchor of her family. She helped her parents make ends meet during some of their lean years. She supported her brother William and his wife Alice during Alice’s losing fight with cancer, helping her parents and in-laws to care for their daughter, Susan. She cared for both parents in their final years. When her brother Billy died of melanoma, Barbara became even more of a stable and emotional support to Billy’s son, Devin, and his fiancée, Jasmine House. Barbie’s neighbors Joyce and Charlie Burgess and their daughter, Barbie had a special spot in Barbara’s heart; they were like a family to her. Barbara will be greatly missed by her niece, Susan Alves, and her nephew, Devin Hoar. She is survived by Susan’s daughters, Irene and Alice, her sister-in-law, Susan Hoar, Barbara’s friend from childhood, Sister Gladys Sharkey, OSF, her cousins, and many dear friends. Barbara’s GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICE AT ST. PATRICK'S CEMETERY IN LOWELL will take place on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2021 at 12:30 PM (Yard 6, enter main gate, front left).
