ARLINE MURPHY “MURPH” Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Sister DRACUT—Mary Arline (Welcome) Murphy, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Florida surrounded by her family on March 16, 2023. She was the wife of the late John J. Murphy who passed away in 2009. Arline was born in Lowell on October 27, 1932, a daughter of the late Walter and Alice (Brodeur) Welcome. She attended the Lowell Schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School, where she was a Girl Officer. During her younger years, she loved playing softball. She also enjoyed bowling in a league for several years. She was an avid crafter and golfer for decades, even holding the Presidency of the Mt. Pleasant Golf League at one point. Arline was employed by the Parachute Company in Lowell as a supervisor, and worked at Lynch Paint for decades as a paint and wallpaper sales consultant. She loved music, always having it playing in the background, and even performing in Variety Shows in her younger years. Arline enjoyed traveling, to places like Myrtle Beach and Mexico, with her golfing friends, and took her dream vacation to Hawaii with her daughter Sandy. Her Dracut farm property was a family staple for the generations of kids who were raised there. All family gatherings, cookouts and holidays were spent there surrounded by family, old friends and new. She welcomed everyone, and loved making people laugh and feel loved. She 'adopted' many new kids and grandkids over the years, who still referred to her as 'Ma Murphy' or 'Grammy'. Her genuine nature and listening ears impacted all who met her, and once you knew her, you'd never forget her. Arline moved to The Villages, Florida in 2018, where she continued her active social life with her many friends, her love of golf, and the quest for a 'hole in one'. Arline was the mother of the late John P. Murphy, Mary Alice Murphy, and William “Bill” Murphy. Surviving Arline are her daughter, Sandra Murphy of Florida; her five grandchildren, Kim Anderson, Heather Herr, John Murphy, Melody Murphy, and Sarah Murphy; fourteen great grandchildren; her brother, Robert Welcome and his wife Lillian; many nieces and nephews, and several dear friends. Arline was the grandmother of the late Amy Murphy, and sister of the late Alice Brown. Family and Friends may call at THE FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET, LOWELL, on THURSDAY, MARCH 30, 2023, from 4 until 8 PM. ARLINE’S FUNERAL will begin on FRIDAY MORNING at 9 o’clock from the Funeral Home, followed by her FUNERAL MASS at 10 o’clock at ST. FRANCIS CHURCH, 115 Wheeler Rd. DRACUT.
